Eyebrow Threading

Published by rhondas at 7:46 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

While in New York in July of ‘08, I saw the booths for eyebrow threading, and didn’t think of it much after that. About 5 months later, my mom told me, “I had my eyebrows threaded at Independence Center.”

I am someone who I would describe as having bushy eyebrows, so for years, I’ve had mine waxed. I plucked them for a while, but got tired of the ice pack, to deaden the pain of plucking. I have gotten into the habit of getting my eyebrows waxed with each and every hair cut, or color.

We were shopping today, and she said, “Oh, there’s where you get your eyebrows threaded.” It was a small free standing booth, with two Indian women and 2 eye-wax type chairs. The women were of India decent. I watched as one of the women, grabbed the spool of thread. It was a Dual-Duty white sewing thread spool. She gripped the thread between her thumb and forefinger, then, grabbed it with her teeth. She applied the thread, in a twisting motion, to the customer’s eyebrows, while the customer ssat comfortably in the chair. I watched as the lady twisted the thread, grab it with her teeth, pull the thread, and rub it against her face, removing eyebrow hairs. After a bit of time, the Indian woman motioned for the cutsotmer to grab her eye, tight, and pull, which she did. The cutsomer tugged her eye brow, and eye area, to make the skin taught. Then the lady applied the tightly twisted thread to the face, and repeated to the other side. It takes about 5-7 minutes, and is $15.00. For me, the women switched off,and I had one woman do one eyebrow, then the other woman, do the other eyebrow.

I found a youtube video of this procedure:

At first, I wasn’t going to have it done, but I remembered I had forgotten to remind the beautician the other day, to wax my eyebrows when I had my hair cut. So, I signed my name. My mom had her eyebrows threaded, then, I was next.

I was placed in the chair, and the lady began threading my eyebrows, exactly like the video shows. Before you ask: YES, it stings. I jumped several times. The ladies do not speak English, therefore, I had no idea what to expect. I can still feel the sting. But, you know what? They did a great job. I was surprised by the little stings, (some woqul dhave made me yelp, but I’d not do that in public) then, I could see the eyebrow hair fly off my brow. There was alot of it removed. They definitely did a better job than any time I’ve ever had them waxed. Would I do it again? Yep. The picture is me, a few hours later. After it was done, they give you a tissue with Witch hazel, to wipe you eyebrows. The eyebrows remain red for a while after, about an hour or so, and continue to sting for a while, too.
